Water-based Lithium Battery: Thundersky Winston Lithium Battery

NO PVDF

At present, 90% of the positive electrode binders of lithium batteries are mainly in PVDF, with the best comprehensive performance. However, the solvent NMP used in it has the risk of reproductive toxicity. The European Union has issued relevant policies to restrict the use of NMP. Enterprises are actively developing water-based binders that are cheaper, more environmentally friendly, and have the same excellent performance to replace oily PVDF. When the existing water-based binders on the market are used on the positive electrode, there are more or less with performance issues. For the binder corresponding to the negative electrode is mainly in water-based, including SBR, CMC, PTFE, PAA ect. Compared with organic solvent-based adhesives, water-based adhesives have the advantages on only volatilizing water vapor, green production environment, low cost, and non-flammability, and have become an important development direction for key materials for Lithium batteries.

The positive active material of water-based LYP battery is made of fluorine compound and rare earth, while the negative electrode active substance is made of nano-carbon fiber and artificial graphite. Therefore, it can keep its inherent molecular structure unchanged, lattice firm, impact resistance, high safety, wide temperature resistance and long service life during high current charging.

Energy storage and Applications

Energy storage type rare earth lithium-ion batteries will lead the revolution of battery energy storage technology Energy storage technology is backward but has a large market potential. In current energy storage methods, pumped storage technology is mature, but limited by geographical conditions, so unable to come into large-scale promotion; Electromagnetic energy storage and phase change energy storage require more high-end technical support, so having a long way to go. At present, only the battery energy storage is the most realistic and the most potential, and is more suitable for power systems. But the battery energy storage must solve two core technologies: one is the battery performance, the other is the interface technology.

All kinds of battery has different energy storage performance. Nickel zinc battery is only suitable for mobile phones and other small equipment. Lead-acid battery, nickel cadmium battery, nickel metal hydride battery have low energy density (lead-acid battery energy density is 37-45 w/kg). Sodium sulfur battery and lithium iron battery has a high cost.

Lithium iron phosphate battery now popular has some defects: one is the relatively backward technology and safety is not stable, two is low energy (now only 86-86 WH/KG),
third is its small monomer (in case of more than 200AH, combustion and explosion may occur), and
four is complicated processes and high costs.
These defects make the lithium iron phosphate batteries to be not suitable for use as energy storage.
Taken together, therefore, energy storage battery must meet the following conditions:
one is high security and no explosion;
two is to make the monomer enough big and let the battery management system function well;
three is to have a wide range of use temperatures (operations are available in a - 45 to 85 degrees temperature environment);
four is to have good consistency and mature production technology;
five is to have a low self-discharge rate, monthly not exceeding 3%;
Six is to have a long life of use (at least more than 30 years);
Seven is to be environmentally friendly and pollution-free.

Now, I'm afraid only rare earth lithium-ion batteries from Thunder-sky Winston can meet these conditions, because they have the following characteristics: battery energy density of 150-190 watts per kilogram; water-soluble adhesives and cascading process; Monomer capacity up to 10000AH (batteries more than 1000AH are the most suitable for energy storage); simple production processes and good consistency; cost being only two thirds of that in the lithium iron phosphate batteries; a full use of domestic materials; temperature range of 45-85 degrees; suitability for rapid and slow charges; service life of 40 and 60 years.

FAQ

The questions of the LFP / LYP battery technology from Winston

1. What is the chemical composition of the WB-LYP battery?

The WB-LYP cells are based on the very popular and famous LiFePO4 chemistry. This chemistry is available from many companies. However only Winston Battery is producing the monolithic large capacity cells up to 10000Ah. Unlike all other manufactures the Thunder-Sky Winston battery uses an advanced technology of cathode doping with rare element Yttrium. This improved chemistry is known as LiFeYPO4, abbreviated as LYP. However for general naming the “LFP” version is still being used. When speaking about Winston Battery LFP cells it is meant that the cells come with the LiFePO4 (LYP) technology.

Lithium Battery At present, 90% of the positive electrode binders of lithium batteries are mainly in PVDF, with the best comprehensive performance. However, the solvent NMP used in it has the risk of reproductive toxicity. The European Union has issued relevant policies to restrict the use of NMP

2. What is the purpose of the WB-LYP battery?

The WB-LYP cells are all purpose technology cells. They can be used for most applications. There are no known limits of the application for the WB-LYP cells.

3. Can the WB-LYP battery be used in transport industry?

Yes. Many of our long-time customers keep using the WB-LYP cells for traction (transportation) applications. E.g. specialized electric cars, electric buses, warehouse and logistic vehicles. The WB-LYP cells have a long time history of the reliability for many of the traction solutions.

4. Why is the marking of the products different?

Some web pages use TS-LFP, TSWB-LFP, TS-LYP or WB-LYP. What is the difference? There is no difference. Originally the cells were marked as “Thunder-Sky LiFePO4” cells – the shortened version TS-LFP. Later (since 2009) the new generation of LiFeYPO4 cells came to market. That is why the marking of the cells changed to TS-LYP (“Thunder-Sky LiFeYPO4”). Even later (around 2012) the name of the Thunder-Sky company was changed to Winston Battery. Thus the name “WB-LYP” came to be used. However even after many years the original name “Thunder-Sky” is very popular and famous. In order to benefit from the famous brand one of the most recent versions of the naming of the company products is “Thunder-Sky Winston Battery”. That is why the name of the products is TSWB-LYP.

5. What is the future of the WB-LYP cells?

The LYP cells have been manufactured for some 15 years. They are a very mature product and they keep getting more and more recognition as a very stable product. The Winston Battery company plans to keep producing these cells and keep expanding the production capacity. We believe the WB-LYP cells will be available for many, many years in the future. The WB-LYP cells are a safe, secure and stable product.
